What Evidence Matters in a VoIP or SMS Interconnection Dispute?

VoIP and SMS disputes are rarely resolved by a single log. A defensible opinion reconstructs the service chain across networks, identifies each handoff and then tests which party controlled the routing, signaling, provisioning or policy decision at issue.

The decisive records

  • SIP ladders, session logs and SBC records
  • SMPP submits, delivery receipts, error codes and SMSC records
  • SS7/SCCP signaling and global-title routing evidence
  • Call-detail and message-detail records
  • Numbering, portability and ENUM lookup data
  • Interconnection agreements, rate sheets, service definitions and escalation correspondence

Questions the evidence should answer

  • Where did the call or message enter and leave each network?
  • Did the failure arise from signaling, routing, provisioning, capacity, policy or an upstream dependency?
  • Was the disputed function termination, transit, access or a separate application-layer service?
  • Do traffic records support the claimed volumes, charges and chronology?

Common analytical mistake

A contractual label does not prove how the service functioned, and a technical handoff does not automatically determine the legal characterization of every service in the chain. The analysis must map the agreement to the systems, traffic and operational responsibility actually observed.

How Leo can help

Leo has built and operated voice and messaging networks and worked with SIP, SMPP, SS7/SCCP, SMSC connectivity, numbering, portability, ENUM and carrier interconnection. He can reconstruct the technical narrative, identify missing evidence and translate protocol-level findings into issues counsel can use.
